Artist Bio:

Seth Darnall is a mixed media and acrylic artist whose work has been exhibited throughout the greater Delaware Valley. A graduate of the University of the Arts, he previously served as curator and artistic director for the Fire and Air pop-up gallery in Philadelphia. Now based in Chester County, he has showcased his work with Ginkgo Arts and The Corner Art Collective and participates in the Chester County Studio Tour. Working primarily in mixed media on canvas, Seth draws inspiration from the textures and layers of deteriorating infrastructure—walls worn by time, weather, and human presence. The interplay of decay and resilience in these surfaces informs his aesthetic, creating rich, tactile compositions that echo the passage of time. In addition to his fine art practice, Seth is an Art Director for a Chicago-based agency, where he applies his artistic sensibilities to the world of design. His dual roles in fine art and design reflect a deep engagement with visual storytelling in both structured and organic forms.

Artist Statement: Getting to Know Your Ghost

In my creative process, I often find myself in conversation with a version of me that has already passed—a ghost of who I was or could have been. This presence isn’t haunting; it’s a guide, a storyteller, a witness to a life already lived. What wisdom would my ghost share? What regrets would it whisper? What moments would it relive, and what would it let go of? My paintings are the space where these conversations unfold. Without preconception, I let each piece emerge instinctively, layering color, texture, and movement like echoes of a life remembered. The process is cathartic—a way of discovering not only who I have been but who I am becoming. Through abstraction, I explore the beauty in struggle, the resilience in scars, and the tension between past and present. Getting to Know Your Ghost is an invitation to engage in your own dialogue with the self that came before. To reflect on the choices, fears, and joys that shape us, and to embrace the unknown wisdom we carry within. In the end, we are all walking with our ghosts—this is my way of listening.
