Artist Statement: Love Letter From The Apprentice

The following is a series of drawings, paintings and mixed media works created over the past two years while I was a tattoo apprentice. The works consist of stretched canvas paintings, watercolors, and tracing paper drawings. They where created with various matte and gloss acrylics, spray paints, graffiti markers and red drafting pencil. My work typically includes images of roses, skulls, big cats, dragons and other plants and animals. The work was inspired and influenced by the history and craft of American Traditional tattooing as well as many local tattoo shops and their respective artist from Phoenixville and surrounding areas. I’ve been trying to find my place within the tattoo industry, and although I haven’t found it quite yet I hope others can see the love I have put into my craft thus far. I also hope to inspire viewers to book with local artist, this area is full of amazing shops and talented tattooers. This show is sincerely, my love letter to tattooing. XO - AM
